Mount Prospect Garden Club: 9:30 a.m. social; 10 a.m. business meeting; 11 a.m. speaker on Tuesday, Jan. 9, in the Farley Room at Mount Prospect Village Hall, 50 S. Emerson St., Mount Prospect. Don White, owner of Anything Orchids, will present “Growing Your First Orchid Successfully.” White will teach how to be successful orchid growers and correct orchid growing fallacies. Northbrook Garden Club: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, at United Methodist Church, 1190 Western Ave., Northbrook. Kim Hartman, landscape designer and horticultural educator, will highlight the best new annuals, perennials, roses, vegetables, shrubs and trees for 2024. Only those plants with unique new features that are successful in our region make the list. Come be inspired by new colors, forms and textures in plants for your landscape, garden and containers. Rolling Meadows Garden Club: 6 p.m. on the second Wednesday of the month, at the Rolling Meadows Community Center, 3705 Pheasant Drive, Rolling Meadows. Refreshments and short business meeting from 6-7 p.m.; program begins at 7 p.m. "Orchids 101: How Not To Kill The Lovely Orchid You Just Brought Home" will be presented by Dr. Bill, who operates a retail nursery. Join for an Introduction to the world of orchids, their care, and what to do with the orchids that you find in stores and nurseries. All are welcome. Schaumburg Community Garden Club: 7 p.m. on the second Wednesday on the month, at Spring Valley Nature Center, 1111 E. Schaumburg Road, Schaumburg. "History and the Fundamentals of Ikebana - Japanese Flower Arranging" will be presented by Margot Wang.
