Adopt a Lisle veteran's grave for Christmas

Join in a project to adopt a Lisle veteran's grave for Christmas.

On Saturday, Dec. 2, fresh evergreen wreaths will be placed at the graves of each of the nearly 90 veterans interred at Lisle Cemetery. These honored dead served in conflicts dating back to the War of 1812.

The opening ceremony will be at 10 a.m. at Lisle Cemetery, 979 Ogden Ave. You can help by attending or placing the wreaths.

Donate online at LisleHeritageSociety.org, or send a check to 1011 Division St., Lisle. The $20 per grave donation helps defray the cost of the wreaths and stands.

This is a collaborative effort of the Lisle Heritage Society, Lisle Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5696, St. Joan of Arc Knights of Columbus Council 15168, Lisle Woman's Club, and Downers Grove VFW Post 503 Auxiliary.

Once Upon a Christmas

Later in the day, the Lisle Heritage Society is joining in the annual Once Upon a Christmas, a holiday tradition featuring old-fashioned, festive fun for the entire family, from 3 to 7 p.m. at The Museums at Lisle Station Park, 921 School St.

Visit with Santa & Mrs. Claus in the Depot; enjoy hot chocolate and hot apple cider; create a holiday craft and write letters to Santa in the Beaubien Tavern; and enjoy a holiday workshop in the Blacksmith Shop.

You also can purchase holiday gifts, including wares crafted by the blacksmiths and the annual collectible ornaments, at the Lisle Heritage Society Gift Shop. Visit museumsatlislestation.org/onceuponachristmas.html.

Also on Dec. 2, the village is hosting the Santa Parade at 4:30 p.m. Watch as Santa, the Lisle mayor and village board trustees, and local community organizations parktake in a parade through downtown.

The parade will be followed by a tree lighting ceremony at 5 p.m. at the village hall.

Join downtown businesses on Main Street all day for Merry On Main, with holiday fun including holiday-themed activities such as games, decorated windows, store and restaurant specials, giveaways and drawings, holiday treats and more.
