The National DAR Day of Service takes place each year on or around Oct. 11. To honor the anniversary of DAR's founding on Oct. 11, 1890, chapters and individuals are encouraged to engage in meaningful service projects in their communities each year on or around Oct. 11.

The Eli Skinner Chapter chose to make fleece and knit hats for homeless veterans. This year, a group of ladies got together after the chapter meeting on Oct. 5, and made a total of 76 hats for our veterans. The total number of hats made so far is 550 - 27 are knitted or crocheted, and 523 are fleece - and chapter members are still sewing.

The hats will be distributed during the VA Winter Stand Down for Homeless/Home Insecure/In-Need Vets on Thursday, Nov. 16, at the Northwest Armory in Chicago.

Great job, ladies!
