Sinfonietta Bel Canto presents 'Hansel and Gretel'
Join the Sinfonietta Bel Canto in bringing to life one of the most beloved and famous fairy tales and operas, the unforgettable adventure of "Hansel and Gretel."
Navigate a mysterious forest, encounter mischievous creatures, and outsmart a wicked witch in Sinfonietta Bel Canto's three performances at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11; 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12; and 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19.
The Nov. 11-12 performances will be at the acoustically pleasing St. Paul United Church of Christ, 5739 Dunham Road in Downers Grove, and the Nov. 19 performance will be at Mayslake Peabody Estate, 1717 W. 31st St. in Oak Brook.
The lead singers in this abridged version of 19th-century German composer Engelbert Humperdinck's opera include Dana McAdam (Nov. 11-12) and Roxann Ferguson (Nov. 19) as Gretel, Antoinette Konow as Hansel, SarahAnn Sutter as the Witch, Brad Morrison as the father, Marlene Gershon (Nov. 11-12) and Dawn Prince (Nov. 19) as the mother, Trisha Keegan as the Dew Fairy, and Sarah Kelder as the Sandman.
Sinfonietta Bel Canto has an established history of operatic and vocal performance in the western suburban and Chicago area.
The Sinfonietta Bel Canto is joined by the VH Dance Center under the direction of Rachel Quinn for these three performances.
The VH Dance Center in Aurora specializes in professional ballet training.
Dan D'Andrea is the artistic director and music director for Sinfonietta Bel Canto.
