Lead Like Lincoln Breakfast welcomes guest speaker and award winner

State Rep. Suzanne Ness is excited to announce U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowski as the Keynote speaker at her 3rd Annual Lead Like Lincoln Breakfast on Saturday, Oct. 14.

In keeping with tradition at this fundraising breakfast, Ness will be presenting the 2023 CAP Award to Leslie LeMarca for her leadership in community service.

LeMarca is a longtime volunteer for the D300 Food Pantry and founder and Chief Elf for Sandy's Stockings, a 501(c)3 that collects items and prepares Christmas stockings for over a dozen not-for-profit organizations.

“Leslie is so deserving of the CAP Award,” said Nikke Kuhlman, D300 Food Pantry Board President, “because of her giving heart, her deep desire to help others and the need to use her skills to help make her community a better place.” “CAP” stands for Commitment, Action & Passion.

“This award honors outstanding individuals who can see the good that is around them and build upon it. Instead of being critical about what doesn't work, CAP recipients work to solve problems,” said Ness. Ms. LeMarca joins previous CAP Award recipients Dr. Maggie Rivera of the IL Migrant Council and Alicia Wehby, Second Bridge Director (part of Kids In Need McHenry County).

“Lead Like Lincoln” celebrates leadership within Illinois House District 66. Ness believes that leadership is about taking responsibility for one's actions and words. “I approach issues by listening to others and recognizing common needs so we can work together to create and reach the best possible outcome,” shared Ness. “During times of crisis and upheaval, President Lincoln would try to make sense of what was happening, why it was happening and what could be accomplished.” Ness went on to say, “Lincoln told the truth in simple stories, he was authentic and accessible. This is how true leadership should be.”

Lead Like Lincoln Breakfast October 14, 2023 from 8:30 a.m - 10:30 a.m. at Oruga Social, 1000 S. McHenry Ave. in Crystal Lake
