NSSC House of Welcome celebrates 40 years of service on Oct. 26

Community residents are invited to help North Shore Senior Center (NSSC) celebrate 40 years of enriching the lives of families touched by memory loss.

Two events will be hosted on Thursday, Oct. 26, to educate about new advances in science and a second program invites residents to experience how NSSC provides a full spectrum of enriching activities, care, and support to people living with memory loss and their caregivers.

"Advancing the Science: The Latest in Alzheimer's and Dementia" will be hosted from 4-5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26, in the Cohn Auditorium on the Arthur C. Nielsen, Jr. Campus. The Alzheimer's Association will provide the latest on the science of dementia, the impact of Alzheimer's disease, and the newest research, including studies that highlight the importance of lifestyle in reducing the risk of developing dementia.

For health care professionals, 1.5 continuing education units will be offered. Family caregivers are also invited to attend. To register, call (847) 784-6030 or register online. The cost to attend is $10. For information, visit www.NSSC.org.

House of Welcome Day Program Open House from 5:30-7:30 p.m., Arthur C. Nielsen, Jr. Campus, 161 Northfield Road, Northfield.

Learn about our person-centered approach and participants' experience when they spend the day with us: structured, therapeutic, small-group activities including memory support and mind games, creative arts therapy, sensory experiences, intergenerational events, entertainment, reminiscence, and group discussions.
