Canning's 6 touchdown runs set Glenbrook South record
Glenbrook South's Nate Canning started the second half of the football regular season in record-setting fashion.
The 5-foot-10, 185-pound senior running back set a program record with 6 rushing touchdowns in the Titans' 42-33 Week 5 win over Evanston on Sept. 22.
Canning scored on runs of 18, 9, 63, 8, 56 and 20 yards.
For the game Canning carried the ball 23 times for 281 yards rushing. He's got 857 yards rushing on the season, with 10 touchdown runs.
Fullback Dom Rejkiewicz added 105 yards rushing against Evanston, nearly half of them - 52 yards - on one carry.
Coming back from a 14-0 deficit on the road, Glenbrook South (1-4, 1-0) kept its playoff hopes alive.
The Titans will be challenged over successive weeks by a pair of 4-1 teams, Deerfield at home in Glenview on Sept. 29, and Maine South in Park Ridge on Oct. 6.
Loyola 38, St. Patrick 0
In a CCL/ESCC crossover, Loyola got all the scoring it needed with Mike Baker's 29-yard field goal late in the first quarter.
The Ramblers scored three second-quarter touchdowns, two coming on Ryan Fitzgerald passes to Nicholas Arogundade and David Pezza, to post a 24-0 halftime lead.
Finn Miller led Loyola in rushing with 92 yards including a 25-yard touchdown run. The Ramblers gained 474 yards of offense and averaged 8.3 yards a play.
Colin Scheid made 7 tackles to lead Loyola. Ethan Hogg and Jimmy McGovern each made 2 of their team's 7 tackles for loss, helping limit the Shamrocks to 156 yards of offense.
Loyola (5-0, 1-0) returns to CCL/ESCC Blue play Sept. 29 at rival St. Rita (4-1, 0-1).
The Ramblers then face IC Catholic and Benet before their Week 9 blowout the last day of the regular season against 5-0 Mt. Carmel, 1 p.m. Oct. 21 in Wilmette.
Maine South 50, New Trier 3
The Trevians (1-4, 0-1) maintain their playoff hopes against a trio of teams currently 1-4.
It starts Friday at Evanston followed by games against Glenbrook North and Glenbrook South. In Week 9 New Trier hosts 4-1 Deerfield on Oct. 20.
