Katz Muhl gains Pritzker endorsement for 57th House District seat

Tracy Katz Muhl of Northbrook, running to represent Illinois' 57th House District in 2024, gained a key endorsement.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker on Sept. 19 endorsed Katz Muhl for the House seat.

"Tracy Katz Muhl has tenaciously served her community as a grass-roots organizer, Democratic committee person, gun violence prevention advocate, attorney and school board president," Pritzker said in a statement released last week by Katz Muhl's campaign office.

"She will be an effective and thoughtful representative for the 57th District, and I am thrilled to endorse her," Pritzker said.

Incumbent Democratic state Rep. Jonathan Carroll has been representing the 57th District since 2017. In July, he announced he would not seek a fifth term due to family commitments.

The 57th District covers all or parts of Glenview, Northbrook, Northfield, Wilmette, Winnetka, Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Des Plaines, Glencoe, Mount Prospect, Prospect Heights, Riverwoods, and Wheeling.

An attorney, Katz Muhl is a Democratic committeeperson for Northfield County and winner of the Cook County Democratic Party's "Party Builder" award in 2022.

A former Northbrook District 28 school board president, Katz Muhl was a regional legislative leader for Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America and was on the board of Angles, a Northfield-based reproductive health clinic and pride youth program.

"It's very exciting," Katz Muhl said of Pritkzer's endorsement. "Two-thirds of the voters across our district supported the governor last election cycle because of his first-term accomplishments and plans for his second term. Particularly for expanded preschool, and as a school board president that's something our district really focused on and we know how much it benefits students throughout their lifetime to have an advantage like that."
