District sets timeline for Glenbrook North principal search

Glenbrook North High School should get its new principal by mid-January, District 225 school board members said Tuesday.

Angelica Romano, the district's executive director for Human Resources, said a survey seeking feedback from employees, students and community members will be sent out next week.

Co-interim principals Steve Bild and Marina Scott have led Glenbrook North following former Principal Jason Markey's May 25 appointment as Hinsdale High School District 86's assistant superintendent for academics.

Romano said the position will be posted between Oct. 13 and Nov. 10 on a variety of sources including the district website, with the Illinois Principals Association and the Illinois Association of School Administrators.

After creating profiles, candidates will go through three rounds of interviews scheduled for Nov. 28, Dec. 12, and Jan. 10. District cabinet members, and then students, staff and parents will participate in the first two rounds. The final interview will be conducted by Romano, Superintendent Charles Johns, and a District 225 board member.

A job offer will be made around Jan. 11, with a recommendation to hire a new principal brought to the school board on Jan. 22.

"We thought this was a perfect time frame that we can work with," Romano said.

Romano and Johns noted the district has several administrators retiring at the end of the 2023-24 school year. They would want the new principal to help determine those positions.

Johns said he knew of several "quality candidates" who would be interested in the position.

"Certainly the word is out that we have a job opening at GBN. That's a good sign," Johns said.
