Appointments for winter heating assistance now being scheduled

Hanover Township is now scheduling in-person and over-the-phone appointments for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) program. LIHEAP helps income eligible households pay for home energy services.

The LIHEAP program will run Oct. 2, 2023, through Aug. 15, 2024, or until funds are exhausted. Starting Oct. 2, households that are income eligible and 60 years or older, on disability, or have a child in the house under the age of 6 can apply. Starting Nov. 1, households that are income eligible and have at least one utility disconnected or have received a disconnection notice can apply. Starting Dec. 1, all other households who are income eligible can apply for energy services.

Applicants must live within Hanover Township and provide all required documentation at the time of the appointment, including:

• Proof of Social Security cards for any new applicants

• Proof of gross income for all household members from the last 30-day period

• A copy of the most current gas and electric bills

The income guidelines for LIHEAP are as follows:

• Household members: One; Monthly gross income: $2,430

• Household members: Two; Monthly gross income: $3,287

• Household members: Three; Monthly gross income: $4,143

• Household members: Four; Monthly gross income: $5,000

• Household members: Five; Monthly gross income: $5,857

Adults 55 and older seeking to schedule an appointment should call the Hanover Township Senior Center at (630) 483-5660. Residents under the age of 55 should call the Hanover Township Astor Avenue Community Center at (630) 540-9085.
