Glenview, Northbrook notes: Select Rehabilitation CEO honored; register for Color Dash

Select Rehabilitation CEO receives award

Anna Wolfe, founder and CEO of Select Rehabilitation in Glenview, was honored along with two other women with an "Outstanding Mother Award" by the American Lung Association in Chicago.

The event highlights female leaders' ability to balance careers and motherhood while making an impact on their community. It was held Sept. 12 at the Marriott Marquis Chicago.

Wolfe has helped Select Rehabilitation grow from a startup regional company into the largest national provider of contract therapy services in the United States. It provides physical, occupational and speech therapy in 46 states to more than 3,000 institutions employing 20,000 professionals.

She also is the mother of two children and grandmother of four.

Wolfe was honored along with Alesia Coe of University of Chicago Medicine and Norah Clarke of Wintrust Financial.

The event was held in partnership with the National Mother's Day Council. It raised nearly $155,000 toward the American Lung Association in Greater Chicago.

Sign up now for Gelfand Gallop Color Dash

The second Gelfand Gallop Color Dash will be held Oct. 1 at Johns Park, 2101 Central Road, Glenview. The event was pushed back from Sept. 17.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Debra Gelfand Children's Foundation, which works with Glenview District 34 to support district families in need. Last year the Color Dash drew about 200 people and raised more than $100,000.

Not a race, the Color Dash has volunteers posted at stations throughout a course at Johns Park who will dust people with biodegradable, colored cornstarch as they pass.

It's open to people of all ages, with 1- and 2-mile lengths for the run, as well as a 50-yard dash for children 5 and younger. Check-in is at 7:45 a.m. Oct. 1, with the Color Dash starting at 8:30 a.m.

Participants must preregister. Visit debragelfand.org and select the "Gelfand Gallop" pull-down menu.

Community outreach

Geared more toward children, a fire department open house will be held from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Glenview's Fire Station 14, 2250 Patriot Blvd.

The open house features demonstrations, fire safety tips, extinguisher training and the chance for children to get in the trucks and ambulances, spray hoses and try on firefighter gear.

From 5:30-7 p.m. Sept. 27, the Glenview Village Board will present "Coffee with the Council" at the Glenview Public Library. It's a casual meet-and-greet with members of the village board for a face-to-face conversation. Coffee and refreshments will be provided.
