Last call for entries in the Hey Nonny T-shirt Design Contest

With the Hey Nonny T-shirt Design Contest, it doesn't matter if you are first or last, just be the best - and don't be late. The September 15 deadline is looming for anyone with an artistic flair who wants the notoriety (and prize money) that come with having designed the logo for this year's Nonny Club member shirt.

"In the last few years our designs were done by either Jon Langford, a local art and music legend, or Sarah Danielle Stewart, a Rockford tattoo artist," said Hey Nonny co-owner Chip Brooks, who is often seen around town wearing one of the classic shirts. "That would be pretty cool company for our winner to keep."

This is the first year Brooks has opened the search for a logo to the community at large. The Nonny Club is a group of insiders who get first dibs on all show tickets and perks, including a members' T-shirt, private shows at the Arlington Heights venue, as well as a few trips to other venues such as outings to The Old Town School of Folk Music and the Jazz Showcase.

"For whatever reason our recent designs have featured skeletons, but trust me, we are not tied to that image," Brooks said. "It probably won't be puppies or kittens that catch our eye, but who knows?"

First prize for the 2024 shirt design will be $500. A second prize of $200 will also be awarded. Details and the application are available at www.HeyNonny.com.

Brooks notes that Hey Nonny patrons in general, and Nonny Club members in particular, have embraced the wide range of musical genres that populate the venue's schedule.

"If we can present so many unique and talented musicians, I think our patrons can come up with an equally eclectic and encompassing T-shirt design. I can't wait to wear the winning design when I am out and about."

The Nonny Club insiders pay $100 for the first family member and $50 for each additional family member. The 2024 memberships will be available starting in September. Buying a 2024 membership before Sept. 13 will get the member an invitation to the private Nonny Club event on Sept. 13, featuring glam rocker Gyasi.
