Meadowhill trail to get a rehab

The pathway connecting Meadowhill Park and Techny Prairie Park & Fields in Northbrook is slated for reconstruction starting April 17.

The targeted section is along the pathway on the south side of Meadowhill Park, 1401 Maple Ave.

The project will remove and replace the failing asphalt pathway, regrade the adjacent riverbank, add drainage pipes, remove overgrown plants and replace them with native species.

The park district explained originally the path was designed to guide water from people's properties into the river. Overgrown vegetation obstructed the water's flow, and standing water froze on the asphalt, causing it to degrade.

Depending on the weather the project should take about five weeks to complete and the pathway should be ready to use by mid-May, the park district said.

Until then, part of the path will be closed without access between Meadowhill and Techny parks.

"The short disruption in trail use should be well worth the wait," park district Director of Parks and Properties Chris Leiner said. "The new section of trail will drain faster and prevent ice buildup in the winter months."
