Northbrook's North Suburban YMCA sets dates for two main fundraisers

The North Suburban YMCA in Northbrook has set dates for its two "Community Strong" fundraisers.

Its Dinner and Casino Night will be held April 28 at Loft 21, 1501 N. Milwaukee Ave., Lincolnshire. Its Golf Fundraiser and Patio Party will be held July 13 at Chevy Chase Country Club in Wheeling.

The Community Strong fundraisers provide resources to enable people in financial need the ability to use NSYMCA programs, including after-school child care, lifesaving swim lessons, summer camps, special needs programs and senior support.

The Dinner and Casino Night raises about half the NSYMCA's $500,000 in scholarship needs for the year. Overall, the dinner has raised more than $4 million, which helps some 2,700 families annually, according to a North Suburban YMCA release.

"The Community Strong events are ideal opportunities for people to come together, support the community, and support the Y," NSYMCA CEO Kathy Fielding said in the release. "It gives children and families a chance to be part of something educational and essential, and it offers them opportunities to have a better quality of life."

The Dinner and Casino Night will offer live music, live and silent auctions and, of course, dinner and casino games. Officials also will present the annual Ken and Alta Thiel Award for Social Responsibility - named after NSYMCA's founders - to the Buehler Family Foundation.

In February, the NSYMCA announced a $120,000 grant from the Buehler Family Foundation toward the purchase of 25 new pieces of fitness equipment for the Y's fitness areas dedicated to seniors and those with special needs, and toward repairs in its weight room floor.

"The Y's mission is a cause that we've always stood behind, and we're proud to play a role in the health and wellness of our community, helping to provide services to our neighbors in need," said A.C. Buehler III, president of the Buehler Family Foundation.

The July 13 golf outing begins with a 1 p.m. shotgun start at Chevy Chase Country Club, followed by a 6-8 p.m. patio reception. A variety of on-course contests, including "best-dressed team," will be offered.

In 2022, the golf fundraiser drew more than 40 sponsors and raised more than $40,000 to help support those who need assistance to participate in NSYMCA programs.
