Business Networking Group to Host Event on Critical Conversations to Have With Aging Parents
The Arlington Business Group, a networking group of Arlington Heights business owners, is hosting a free event focused on having critical conversations with aging parents. The event takes place on April 12 at 6:30 p.m.
Deb Torres, a social worker with the Institute for the Cycles of Life, LLC, will host the event and speak about preparing for the end of life. The event will also feature a panel of professionals from the Arlington Business Group who will offer practical advice on how to prepare for a loved one's future.
"There are a lot of decisions that need to be made in the days and weeks following a parent's death," said Dave Hogaboom, Capital Point financial advisor and member of the Arlington Business Group. "So it's important to have conversations early to avoid unnecessary stress and familial discord at a time that is already emotionally overwhelming."
During the event, Hogaboom will share insights on financial planning as well as steps to take after a parent passes away. Attorney and co-founder of Navigant Law Group Mildred Palmer will discuss estate planning and how to ensure the appropriate documents are in place as parents age. Residential real estate broker David Schwabe shares tips on how to sell a parent's home as they age or after their death. And Laura Lian Williams, Creative Director of Laura Lian Design Studio, will share resources for password organization and how to effectively market your loved ones' valuables which are not being passed down.
"We have a really robust panel set to speak at the April 12 event," said Torres. "Event attendees will leave with a complete checklist of discussion topics to work through with their aging parents, so everyone feels prepared to address any practical, legal, or financial issues that come about as parents age."
"Critical Conversation with Your Aging Parents" will take place on April 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Waverly Inn, 515 W/ Rand Road in Arlington Heights. Please RSVP to Deb Torres at icolbydeb@gmail.com or 734.846.7535 by April 1.
