Endorsement: Dye for Bensenville District 2 school board

This endorsement is a consensus opinion of the Daily Herald Editorial Board.

Five candidates are running for four open four-year terms on the Bensenville Elementary District 2 school board.

Jacqueline Dye and James Stoltman Jr. are incumbents, while Naila Rafiq Fonseca, Victoria Connie Gonzalez and Anita J. Miller are newcomers.

Dye, of Bensenville, was appointed to a 2-year term in November 2021. Since then, she's been an active part of the board's process for developing a strategic plan and hiring a new superintendent. She comes across as a true team player with more than 20 years of experience in education. Dye also serves as a youth counselor and mentor, and she and her husband founded Generation Next Empowerment, a nonprofit that assists at-risk youths in Chicago to complete their education, prepare for jobs and find housing.

Dye also sees her role on the board as a mediator between the community and the board and to make sure children receive the best education possible. She states that whatever policy the board adopts, it should always be in the best interest of the students and their education.

Dye is a strong candidate who deserves to finish what she's started and expresses a genuine desire to ensure students have the best education possible. Dye is endorsed.

The other four candidates chose not to participate in our endorsement interview process, so we have no endorsement for the remaining openings.
