Orphans of the Storm Launches 'Paws for the New Year' Program

Dog lovers looking to ring in the new year with a shelter dog can sign up for "Paws for the New Year," a brand-new short-term fostering program taking place from December 30 through January 3.

"We want to give our dogs a much-needed break from the shelter," Shelter Manager Lindsay Echito said. "Plus, we expect to learn a lot about how the dogs are in a home environment, which will help us to make better matches with adopters in the future."

Anyone interested in the short-term fostering program should:

1. Sign up for a pick-up time: Visit: https://bit.ly/PawsForTheNewYear

(Participants can review available dogs and indicate a preference, which will be honored if possible.) Visit: https://orphansofthestorm.org/dogs/

2. Fill out a foster application form. Visit:

Adoption counselors will call foster families before their designated pick-up time to help match the family with a suitable dog.

Echito says, "It's a great way for a family to test out a dog before fully committing to adopting. And, of course, we're more than happy to make it official if fosters decide they want to keep their New Year's pup."
