Glenbrook South student film wins national award

"Free Time," the short film made by Glenbrook South High School film and broadcasting students last winter, won a National Student Production Award in the Short Form Fiction category during a virtual ceremony in November.

The NSP awards are presented by The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. ABC News correspondent Rachel Scott hosted the ceremony.

Acknowledged along with Glenbrook South teacher and film adviser Julie Benca were filmmakers Tommy Casey, Noah Collins, Michael Cunningham, Josh Patt and Omar Shoreibah.

Shoreibah also won an individual award for editing.

The group had such a good time making "Free Time" that members reconvened this summer to create a longer, 27-minute movie, "All Right." That premiered Nov. 26 at Pickwick Theatre in Park Ridge, and was released on YouTube Nov. 29.

Deerfield High School students Jack Gordon, Cole Bernstein and Sam Brody-Goldberg, advised by Brett Schwartz, won the student Emmy for their 10-minute Arts/Entertainment/Cultural Affairs offering, "TikTok Is Eating YouTube Alive."

This despite the fact that, as of Nov. 30, Gordon had more than 421,000 subscribers on YouTube, where the video had 196,000 views.
