Longtime Schaumburg Village Trustee Frank Kozak Remembered

It is with great sadness that the Village of Schaumburg announces the death of Village Board Trustee Frank Kozak who passed away Dec. 3, 2022, at the age of 78.

Kozak was a long-time resident of Schaumburg and served the village for almost 40 years in a variety of capacities.

"Trustee Kozak's passing is a tremendous loss for the Village of Schaumburg," said Village President Tom Dailly, who served as village trustee alongside Kozak for eight years. "Trustee Kozak has not only been a friend of mine for many years, but an admirable public servant to the village who dedicated himself to making our community a better place. On behalf of the Village Board, my heartfelt condolences go out to Frank's family."

Trustee Kozak served for 26 years on the Plan Commission from 1983 to 2009. He was elected to the Village Board in 2009, a role he has held for the past 13 years. Kozak served on a number of committees and commissions including the Public Safety Committee; Finance, Legal, Administration, General Government Committee; and Planning Building, and Development Committee.

This year, Kozak was honored to serve as the marshal of the 50th Labor Day Parade as part of the village's Septemberfest activities. Kozak had participated in all 50 years of the fest and parade throughout the village's history.

In addition to his time spent as an elected official, Kozak also served the community in other ways. He was involved in organizations such as the Schaumburg Jaycees where he served as a local president and state director; Schaumburg Athletic Association where he served as a soccer commissioner for four years; and Schaumburg High School VIP program supporting high school activities. Kozak also volunteered with Misericordia for more than 20 years. Kozak was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit where he served as a lector and usher volunteer.

"Trustee Kozak's legacy is built upon his many years of public service, but he will also be remembered as a person who had a great sense of humor, worked diligently to make a difference in the community by giving back, and demonstrated a true love for Schaumburg," said Village Manager Brian Townsend. "He will be sorely missed by all who knew him."

Kozak had been a resident of Schaumburg since 1969.
