Hanover Twp. to host free concert featuring U-46 mariachi band

Hanover Township will offer a free, outdoor community concert with Mariachi Joya Dorada de U-46 on Thursday, Sept. 22, at the Izaak Walton Reserve, 899 Jay St., Elgin. Beginning at 6 p.m., residents can bring chairs, blankets and beverages to enjoy the music.

Launched in 2005, the Mariachi Program at School District U-46 offers hands-on instruction for guitar, guitarron, vihuela, violin and trumpet to high school and middle school students. The group has performed throughout the area and also at Elgin Symphony Orchestra events at The Hemmens.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held last month at the reserve highlighting the improvements that included an outdoor amphitheater, water fountain, elevated board walk and low ropes challenge course.

For questions about the concert or the reserve, call (630) 837-0301 or email info@hanover-township.org.
