National Falls Prevention Week in Arlington Heights

The Village of Arlington Heights is focusing on Falls Prevention through an educational session held at various Senior Living Communities throughout the week of Sept. 18-24.

Falls result in more than 3 million injuries treated in emergency departments annually, including 800,000 hospitalizations and more than 32,000. Falls can be preventable. Arlington Heights Community Risk Division Chief for the Fire Department, David Roberts and Senior Center Manager, Tracey Colagrossi will discuss ways of prevention and risks at Luther Village on Sept. 19 at 1:30 p.m.; Church Creek on Sept. 20 at 1:30 p.m.; the Arlington Heights Senior Center on Sept. 21 at 1:30 p.m.; and at the Moorings at 2 p.m. on Sept. 22. The National Council on Aging provides a falls screening questionnaire which will be conducted after the fall's presentation.

The Northwest Community Healthcare Physical Therapy Department will provide free falls screening clinic on Friday, Sept. 22 from 9 am to noon, by appointment only. To register for an appointment time, please call the Arlington Heights Senior Center at (847) 253-5532.

Falls Prevention Week is a celebration of the Arlington Heights community working together to live well and age well. The Arlington Heights Senior Center is Accredited through the National Council on Aging. September is National Senior Center Month.
