Rescued cat, Oliver, cleans up nicely

Joe and Kimberly Miller love animals, and so does the Deerfield Herald.

On Aug. 12, Deerfield Bannockburn Fire Department firefighter and paramedic Joe Miller was among those who responded to a report of a kitten stuck in a window well drain pipe in a house under construction.

Miller wrangled the wedged cat out of the pipe. After efforts to see if anyone had reported a lost cat came up negative, the Millers adopted it as their own.

Among the pets they already own are Charlie the German shepherd and a Flemish Giant rabbit named Georgie. All have been adopted from shelters.

Kimberly, who names all the couple's pets, assigned the rescued, 8-month-old kitten the name Oliver.

As illustrated with these before-and-after photos Kimberly Miller sent last week, Oliver cleaned up nicely and is enjoying his new home with the Millers in Ingleside.

"He'll always be an indoor cat," Joe Miller said after the rescue.
