Hanover Township Mental Health Board awards funding, swears-in members at August meeting

The Hanover Township Mental Health Board awarded $39,211 in funding to five agencies during its Aug. 23 meeting.

Easterseals was awarded $15,158 in Capital Funding to purchase equipment to assess hearing in young or nonverbal youth. The agency also received $1,300 in Staff Development Funding for personnel to obtain certification in sensory integration, a process that focuses on the assessment and treatment of children with sensory processing disorders.

The board awarded WINGS Program, Inc., with $11,754 in Capital Funding to address a repairs in their transitional home in the township for women and families victims of domestic violence.

Partners in Our Communities also received Capital Funds in the amount of $5,000 for technology upgrades to its Hanover Park office.

Based in Elgin, Ecker Center for Behavioral Health received $3,000 in Staff Development Funding for agency personnel to receiving training in first aid, CPR, AED as well as diversity, inclusion and non-violent crisis intervention.

Shelter Inc., also received Staff Development Funds in the amount of $2,999 for personnel to attend the Crisis Prevention Institute to obtain intervention certification.

Township Clerk Katy Dolan Baumer read the oath of office to Matt Steichmann of Elgin, who was reappointed to the board, and new appointee, Michelle Zajac Esquivel.

A resident of Elgin, Michelle also serves as the executive director of Well Child Center, a Fox Valley based nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of children and families through education, counseling and services in the areas of childhood nutrition and pediatric dental health. She is also a graduate of the 2021-2022 Elgin Area Leadership Academy.

The next meeting of the Mental Health Board will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 27, at the Senior Center, 240 S. Route 59, Bartlett.

Hanover Township serves over 105,000 residents in portions of the Cook County communities of Streamwood, Elgin, Bartlett, Hanover Park, Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg.
