Palatine to host Climb Out of the Darkness fundraiser Aug 27 - raising awareness of maternal mental health

This will be the first Climb out of the Darkness® fundraising event held in Palatine. It is the world's largest event raising awareness and funds for perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, including postpartum depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and psychosis. These illnesses affect 1 in every 5 to 7 women and 1 in 10 men and are the most common complication of childbirth. Unfortunately, not all these people will seek or find appropriate treatment. The Climb provides an opportunity to not only build community, but to provide the capability for PSI to continue advocating and providing services for those affected by a perinatal mood or anxiety disorder (PMAD).

This year we are fundraising for an organization that provides childbirth education, doula, doula services, and is involved in birth justice, called the Sokana Collective. Team Palatine will be held at Twin Lakes on Aug., 27, 2022 and will be a family-friendly walk and resource fair. There, we will raise awareness, reduce stigma, rally community, and to raise funds to support a local community organization that provides support to pregnant and postpartum parents, as well as education and services.
