North Suburban Legal Aid Clinic Receives Major State Grant to Provide Eviction Help

North Suburban Legal Aid Clinic has been awarded a $125,000 state grant from the Illinois Equal Justice Foundation to provide free legal assistance to local residents facing eviction. These services will be offered as part of Eviction Help Illinois, a statewide legal aid network for Illinois residents dealing with housing issues due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Eviction Help Illinois has provided more than 290,000 services to date and is funded through the Illinois Department of Human Services.

People can access Eviction Help Illinois in one of three ways:

• Call: (855) 631-0811

• Text: "Eviction" to 85622

• Talk to a virtual assistant at evictionhelpillinois.org

"No one should have to face an eviction alone. When people have a lawyer by their side, they stand a greater chance of avoiding eviction, reaching an agreement with their landlord and staying in their homes," said Kendric Cobb, IEJF board president.

North Suburban Legal Aid Clinic provides free legal services to residents of suburban Cook County and Lake County in the areas of housing, immigration and domestic violence.

About the Illinois Equal Justice Foundation

The IEJF was created in 1999 through the Illinois General Assembly's passage of the Equal Justice Act, which recognized the state's responsibility to provide equal access to the justice system by funding civil legal aid programs. Since its first grant cycle in 2000, the IEJF has awarded more than $40M in grants to nonprofit programs across Illinois that help people resolve their legal problems and improve their lives.
