Arlington Heights concert band salutes women in music
Come and celebrate the beautiful music composed or sung by women.
The Arlington Heights Community Concert Band will pay tribute to two of America's famous female vocalists, Judy Garland and Whitney Houston. Julie Giroux's Italian Rhapsody will include "Funiculi, Funicula," the Italian wedding song, and more delightful pieces.
The concert will also feature two female band members, Bobbi Webber as guest conductor and Deb Loftus as oboe soloist.
The concert takes place at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 24, in the theater of Forest View Educational Center, 2121 S. Goebbert Road, Arlington Heights. The concert is free, but seating is limited. Concerts are typically a sellout. To reserve tickets, email ahccbtickets@gmail.com or visit bit.ly/3EXaCsf.
Any remaining reservations will be available at the door. Current CDC and Illinois COVID-19 guidelines will be followed.
The concert is the band's annual food drive. This year, the band will be collecting goods for local Ukrainian refugees, including canned goods, baby supplies, cleaning products, feminine hygiene products, shampoo and any items you feel may help. There will be a table in the lobby for your donation.
The Arlington Heights Community Concert Band is a not-for-profit corporation, and all donations are tax deductible to the extent provided by law.
The Arlington Heights Community Concert Band started with three musicians in November 1979 and has grown to more than 65 dedicated volunteer musicians of all skill levels and ages. Pietro Pisello is the artistic director and conductor.
Interested musicians are always welcome. Membership is open to anyone 14 and older who has experience playing a musical instrument. No audition is required, and seat placement is at the conductor's discretion.
Weekly rehearsals are from 7-9 p.m. Wednesdays at Forest View Educational Center. The first several rehearsals of each concert cycle allow time for potential interested musicians to "try us out."
The band is proud to announce that the Arlington Heights Arts Commission honored the Arlington Heights Community Concert Band with its Cultural Arts Award, which celebrates achievements of artists or groups of artists in Arlington Heights who have created a substantial body of work in their field.
The band, which is in partnership with Northwest Suburban High School District 214, receives support from both the Arlington Heights Park District and the village of Arlington Heights.
