Boat Handling 101 - Learn the Basics and Beyond Starting March 7th at Libertyville HS

America's Boating Club of Waukegan is offering a practical Boat Handling course for recreational boaters. Whether you are new to boating, or simply want to brush up on your boating knowledge and skills, this course will serve you well. Formerly known as Seamanship, our Boat Handling course is designed to cover the most important aspects of boating to keep you safe and confident every time go out for a day of fun on the water.

Topics covered include the essential rules of the road - in other words, who has the right of way, what do the various channel markers mean, and how is boating during the day different from boating at night. Proper docking and undocking procedures, slow speed maneuvering, and handling your boat under various conditions will also be addressed. In addition, you will learn correct anchoring techniques, how to handle the lines, and how to tie various knots. Lastly, the all important topic of how to deal with emergencies on board will be thoroughly covered.

The seven-session course will be held Mondays from 7:00pm - 9:30pm at Libertyville High School, starting on March 7, 2022. It ends on April 18th with a final exam.

The course costs $75 for America's Boating Club members, or $105 for non-members. The course materials include a detailed Boat Handling/Seamanship textbook.
