Eli Skinner Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Arlington Heights Outstanding Teacher and Youth Awards
The Eli Skinner Chapter of the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution gave awards to one Outstanding Teacher in American History, and four 1st place American History Essay writers at their February meeting.
Mrs. Eileen Paparone was presented with the Outstanding Teacher in American History Award. The award is presented bi-annually to one teacher from the approximately 1,000 social studies teachers in the Chapter's geographic area of the Northwest Suburbs. A 7th grade Social Studies teacher at Holy Family Academy in Inverness, Mrs. Paparone is a remarkable educator who focuses on studies to help students develop higher-level critical thinking skills.
The 2021-2022 American History Essay Contest topic celebrated the 100th Anniversary of the dedication of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Students in grades 5-8 were asked to imagine themselves as a grieving sibling attending the dedication ceremony in November of 1921. 75 essays were submitted to the Eli Skinner Chapter, NSDAR. Four first place, and three second place winning essays were awarded. First place winners were invited to read their essays at the chapter meeting.
The National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) is a women's service organization dedicated to historic preservation, education and patriotism. Essay contests are sponsored annually with awards at the chapter, district, state and national level.
