Vernon Twp. trustee to run for Lake County Board

Vernon Township Trustee Sara Knizhnik announced this week she is running for the District 18 Lake County Board seat. The Vernon Hills Democrat is a community organizer and advocate for public safety, Knizhnik said there is a need for locally focused solutions to the climate crisis, inequities in the educational and criminal justice systems and housing and food insecurity.

Knizhnik has a master's degree in international studies and was a university professor for 17 years before becoming a full-time professional advocate for gun violence prevention and criminal justice reform in 2017.

District 18 includes portions of Vernon Hills, Hawthorn Woods, Lake Zurich, Kildeer, Long Grove and Buffalo Grove. It's one of two newly redrawn districts that does not have a current board member living in it.
