Spring Into Action on the Soccer Field
Heart of the City announces its first "Spring Into Action Soccer Tournament", a one-day event for regional recreation teams to play against other recreation teams on Sunday, May 1 at the Waukegan Sports Park. Funds raised at the tournament will go towards Heart of the City's youth soccer and education programming.
The tournament is open to girls, boys, and coed teams playing in the U8, U10, U12, and U14 age groups. Teams will have the chance to win trophies and medals in their divisions. All teams are guaranteed three games in the tournament.
"We are really looking forward to providing a top-quality recreation soccer tournament for youth in Northern Illinois and the surrounding areas," said Dean Smith, Sporting Director at Heart of the City. "Our inaugural tournament is a great opportunity to bring recreation soccer organizations and communities together for an exciting one-day event."
Heart of the City's programs serve over 500 youth from underfunded communities through after school, recreational, and travel soccer teams. With an accessible soccer program that eliminates the financial barriers of playing sports, and a youth developmental pathway, student athletes gain opportunities and life skills to see their futures and score goals on and off the field.
The Spring Tournament will raise much needed funds for Heart of the City's soccer and educational programs and help marginalized student athletes gain knowledge and self-confidence that will help them succeed and create a positive future for themselves.
"We are proud to be partners with Heart of the City and are honored to be the host site for its Spring Tournament," said Jay Lerner, Executive Director of the Waukegan Park District. "Heart of City provides excellent training and life skills to its soccer players. We look forward to many more years of the partnership."
Registration is now open through April 10. The cost per team to participate is $200. Early bird and multiple team discounts are available. More details, including registration, are available at www.heartofthecitysports.org/2022-spring-into-action-tournament.
