Northwest Festival Orchestra to Present 'Mozart, Mendelssohn, Mahler'

The Northwest Festival Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Verne Schwager, will present "Mozart, Mendelssohn, Mahler," its inaugural concert for the new 2021-2022 season, at 4 p.m. on Sunday Nov. 21, in the Performing Arts Center at Harper College, 1200 W. Algonquin Road, in Palatine.

This unique concert program is provided for the public with an admission charge of $35 for adults; $30 seniors; and $20 students. Tickets are available at the door or in advance by calling (847) 392-9003.

The Northwest Festival Orchestra and conductor, Dr. Verne Schwager, will perform, accompanied by vocal soloists Lindsey Poling, mezzo soprano and Walter Aldrich, baritone.

The highly respected ensemble will perform a selection of works including the Fanfare from Dukas' ballet "La Peri," excerpts from Mendelssohn's "A Midsummer Night's Dream," Mozart's "Haffner Serenade" K. 250 and March in D, K. 249, "Blumine" of Mahler from Symphony No. 1, and selections from Mahler's "Des Knaben Wunderhorn." Of course, there will be the usual "surprises" from the Maestro.

The Northwest Festival Orchestra is comprised of Chicago's finest younger professional musicians who share a common passion for creating and sharing music at the highest level. The ensemble's programs are devoted to both classical and contemporary repertoire spanning the orchestral spectrum and also frequently include opera/operetta excerpts, as well as music from the American Musical Theater; additionally, prominent and rising younger soloists are invited to perform when they are able to reach a level of convincing performing capability and skill.

The orchestra's style and musical integrity are chiefly characterized by a string section known for its warmth and virtuosity, crafted under the masterful leadership of a seasoned conductor.
