Sound check: Lucky Boys Confusion reunites the scene this weekend

West suburban-native rock band Lucky Boys Confusion brings back its popular Songs from a Scene series this weekend with two nights of Chicago-area music at Bottom Lounge.

Uniting growing rock and punk bands from the Western suburbs and putting them on Chicago stages, the annual concert series was integral in helping build the popularity of suburban artists in the pre-social media era.

Now, a decade since the last Songs from a Scene concert, the members of LBC - Kaustubh Pandav of Skokie, as well as Ryan Fergus, Adam Krier, Jason Schultejann and Brian Sherman - decided to bring it back in part to celebrate the return of live music and also to reunite with fans after not playing an in-person show since late 2019.

"The Songs From a Scene legacy is something we take a lot of pride in, and so we're really ecstatic to have a great mix of nostalgic acts on the bill as well as newer up-and-coming bands, which has really been the goal of these shows over the years," Fergus said. "After two long years away, we're so looking forward to reconnecting with our fans face-to-face. I may get a bit emotional, I won't lie."

Spreading the concert over two nights serves a dual purpose for LBC: Smaller crowds at Bottom Lounge allow for better enforcement of safety standards, and two shows means two different lineups, giving more area musicians a chance on stage.

Friday night, LBC headlines with The Dog & Everything, The Gelheads and Til Morning. Saturday, they head the lineup featuring One Life, Take the Reins and Temple of Dome.

"It allows us to mix up the set lists and hopefully give some extra value to the hard core fans who are coming out both nights," Fergus said.
