Huntley church to celebrate National First Responders Day Oct. 28

On National First Responders Day, the community is invited to join Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church in Huntley for a celebration honoring the local Huntley Police Department and Huntley Fire Protection District. It will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, in the church parking lot, 10805 Main St.

"National First Responders Day provides Shepherd of the Prairie the opportunity to thank and honor first responders for their contributions to the safety and well-being of our communities," said the Rev. Mark Boster, pastor of Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church. "We appreciate the sacrifices all of our first responders and their families make in service to others."

An array of activities has been planned for the evening, including a formal opening ceremony of the Presentation of the Colors and Pledge of Allegiance by the Huntley Boy Scout Troop 200 at 5:30 p.m.

Immediately following, master of ceremonies Mike Yndestad, Community Outreach Chairman at Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church, will introduce Huntley Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Mike Pierce, Huntley Police Department Chief Robert Porter, and Rev. Boster, who will offer remarks at the event.

Several Huntley emergency vehicles will be located in the parking lot for viewing up-close. A craft table will be provided for children where they can write and/or draw personal thank you notes to members of the fire protection district and police department.

During the evening, community members can enjoy free hot dogs, chips, and refreshments served by the Boy Scout Troop 200.
