Internationally renowned violinist to perform at a celebration of the arts in Elgin Aug. 22

"Welcome Back, Elgin!"

That is the heading of the event that the Chamber Music on the Fox and the City of Elgin are partnering together to bring violinist Rachel Barton Pine to the Hemmens Cultural Center on Sunday, Aug. 22. The program celebrates Elgin as well as the arts, now that large gatherings can occur safely again.

The afternoon's events will include pop-up performances, food trucks, arts activities, and the official opening of the new Civic Center Plaza.

But the main event of the day is a concert featuring internationally acclaimed violinist Rachel Barton Pine performing alongside Chamber Music on the Fox's Chamber Players. She will lead the ensemble in a performance of Mozart's stunning C Major String Quintet as well as the masterful "Souvenir de Florence" by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.

The concert will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22. Tickets are free but reservations are required. Social distancing will be observed in the theater and masks will be required. Tickets can be reserved online at hemmens.org/tickets.

The concert will also be streamed to speakers on the Plaza, so non-ticketed attendees will be able to bring a picnic and a lawn chair and enjoy from outside.

This program is sponsored by Seigle Foundation and the City of Elgin.

Founded by ESO musicians Mark Fry and Sara Sitzer, Chamber Music on the Fox is a world-class classical chamber music series serving Elgin and the greater Fox Valley region, whose mission is to present engaging, enriching, and immersive performances and cultural experiences that enhance and enrich the cultural offerings of the area.
