Neighbors in the News: District 62 names new student services coordinator
• Glenview resident Katerina Vaselopulos was named Student Services coordinator at Des Plaines School District 62, responsible for administering and supervising special education programs and services in compliance with state and federal rules and regulations.
Vaselopulos replaces Jami Shlensky, who has taken a position out of state.
Vaselopulos most recently served as a school psychologist at South Elementary School for seven years. Prior to that, she served as the school psychologist at Forest Elementary School in District 62.
Vaselopulos holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from DePaul University; a master's degree in educational psychology and an educational specialist's degree in school psychology from National Louis University.
She most recently obtained a master's in educational leadership through the Principal Preparation Program from Concordia University and earned her administration certificate.
She is an active member in both the National Association of School Psychologists and Illinois School Psychology Association.

Byron DeLeon was promoted to head coach of the boys varsity soccer team at Saint Viator High School in Arlington Heights.
DeLeon has been coaching boys soccer for nearly 20 years, and most recently served as the head coach of the Saint Viator boys JV soccer team, as well as assistant coach of the boys varsity soccer team.
DeLeon has previously coached for Saint Patrick High School, Notre Dame High School for Girls, Mustangs FC, Lyons SC, Maine East High School and has 16 years experience as the head coach of the International Tribe Soccer Club Boys U18 team.
DeLeon will begin his new role as the head boys varsity soccer team coach in the fall of the 2021-2022 school year.

Deerfield resident Xena Olsen won one of three $5,000 Women in Cybersecurity Scholarship awards from global cybersecurity company ESET, a leader in IT security.
The $5,000 scholarships are designed to boost representation of women in cybersecurity and are granted to women who are currently graduate or undergraduate students in the United States and majoring in a STEM field of study.
A first generation Mexican American, Olsen intends to complete her doctorate in cybersecurity at Marymount University in Virginia and hopes one day to build and lead a threat intelligence program.
The ESET Women in Cybersecurity Scholarship is one of the many initiatives ESET supports to increase diversity in the workplace and in cybersecurity. ESET also helps host the annual Cyber Boot Camp and supports a number of philanthropic organizations.

Joyce Mueller has joined Trelleborg Sealing Solution Center in Schaumburg as a customer success advocate.
Trelleborg's Customer Solution Center provides sealing solutions, materials expertise and support to customers in the industrial market. Mueller was hired to help create exceptional experiences for Trelleborg's key customers in the Midwest United States.
Before joining Trelleborg, Mueller worked as a certification analyst at Gogo LLC, where she completed data analysis, managed data transfers and documentation and maintained mass data lists. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Northern Illinois University.
• The Illinois Retired Teacher's Association Unit 90 recently announced the winners of its Doris Haack Scholarship Fund.
The scholarship winners are:
Trinity Burgess, Hoffman Estates High School. Trinity will study journalism at Marquette University.
Sarah Hazenfield, Hoffman Estates High School. Sarah will attend Bradley University to study secondary education and English.
Hannah Lexington, Conant High School. Hannah will study English literature at Southern Methodist University.
Sebastian Martinez, Hoffman Estates High School. Sebastian will attend Elmhurst University as a music education major.
The Doris Haack Scholarship Fund was established to promote the teaching of English studies. The scholarship is named for Doris Haack, a longtime District 211 English teacher who taught at Conant and Hoffman Estates high schools. The scholarship was open to students from those two schools.
