Kohl Children's museum earns national recognition as one of the best

Kohl Children's Museum has been recognized for its outstanding early childhood exhibits and impact on Chicago area families by USA Today's 10Best.com Children's Museums in the North America travel awards competition.

"After a challenging year that shuttered our day-to-day operations, it's inspiring that our audience still recognizes that we make such dramatic impact on children's lives," said Mike Delfini, president and CEO of the Museum.

"We are honored to know that Kohl was ranked number four in the nation by those who matter most: our members and family visitors. Experts and everyday users alike recognize that we provide a vital opportunity for discovery and exploration, harnessing the power of play and fueling curiosity when young minds are most receptive."

The awards program recognizes the top ten children's museums as voted on by USA Today readers from an original list of 20 nominations selected by a team of travel experts. Kohl Museum placed fourth in the Top 10 list in both 2020 and 2021.

After being closed for nearly 15 months for the pandemic, the museum recently reopened its indoor exhibit environment and is debuting a new seasonal special event, "SummerBurst: an EXPLORsion of Outdoor Fun," which will run through August 29.

"SummerBurst offers museum goers the best of both worlds," said Delfini. "We recognize that with current vaccination availability, many families may not yet be comfortable visiting purely indoor establishments. By taking our brand of learning through play outdoors, we can offer an even safer environment, while also providing fresh, fun and educational content for visitors."

Included with SummerBurst admission are access to a live butterfly tent, an animatronic bug hunt, the Tiny Town Trike Track, an augmented reality Math Trail, and an outdoor large-scale art studio. Tickets are $15 for adults and children, with discounts available for Kohl Children's Museum members. Information and tickets for both indoor admission and SummerBurst can be found at kcmgc.org.
