HERALD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: GLENBROOK SOUTH'S LUCAS WINGER

Glenbrook South's 11-9 boys lacrosse victory over rival Glenbrook North on May 18 was big enough for Titans coach Matt Larsen to spell HUGE in capital letters.

Glenbrook South followed with a 17-12 victory over Stevenson on May 22.

Sophomore goaltender Lucas Winger's 20 saves against Glenbrook North, Larsen said, "was a big reason as to why we beat Glenbrook North."

Winger made about 35 saves in the combined victories over the Spartans and Stevenson, the coach said.

Due to the suspension of the 2020 season, Winger is in his first season of high school lacrosse after picking up the sport the summer before he entered Glenbrook South.

He's a fast learner. Through 12 games of work this season Winger had made more than 120 saves with a save percentage better than 60% in an often high-scoring sport.

"He is an unbelievable talent and is an all-conference goalie, in arguably one of the hardest conferences (Central Suburban League South) in the state," Larsen said. "He has been a workhorse for this team and keeps getting better and better."
