Send it soaring: Kites take to the sky in Wheaton this Saturday

Saturday's forecast in Wheaton would make Mary Poppins click her heels and pop open her umbrella.

The conditions - "windy with intervals of clouds and sun," as AccuWeather notes - will be practically perfect for the Wheaton Park District's annual Go Fly a Kite event in Graf Park, just east of the DuPage County Fairgrounds.

The kite-flying festival returns from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. It also will double as a kickoff to the park district's 100th anniversary yearlong celebration.

Participants can bring their own kite or the first 100 families to arrive will receive a complimentary kite to fly. The event is free.
