Endorsement: Weller for Wheaton City Council, South District
Three candidates are vying to replace departing Wheaton City Council South District board member John Rutledge in the April Election.
Bill Nieman is a retired engineer who has previously served on the Wheaton Bicycle Advisory Commission.
Scott Weller, a commercial banker, has been on the Wheaton Planning and Zoning Board since 2008, serving as chairman since 2015.
Mark Yetsky, a divisional vehicle maintenance specialist for Fed Ex, is active with Habitat for Humanity and the Knights of Columbus.
All three are longtime residents of the community with assets that would be valuable to the next board.
The next board faces a number of issues including the streetscape project downtown, flooding issues and the city's public safety pension debt.
Of special interest to residents of southern Wheaton is a study looking at the Roosevelt Road corridor.
Both Nieman and Weller share similar positions on many of these issues.
Sitting on the planning and zoning board, Weller is familiar with the issues that need to be addressed with the Roosevelt Road corridor study.
We think Weller's experience in village government will help him hit the ground running after the election.
Weller is endorsed.
