Annual Chili Cook-Off supports Partners for Progress programs

Congratulations to the Assembly American Bar & Cafe in Hoffman Estates for winning the 14th Annual Partners for Progress Chili Cook-Off.

The Assembly was one of four restaurants that participated in the not-for-profit's virtual chili cook-off fundraiser. The four restaurants that cooked up their best batch of chili were The Assembly American Bar & Cafe, Beelow's Steakhouse, Dorfler's Meat Market and Smokey Joe's Chili.

The "take home" chili cook-off included a pint of chili from each of the venues, along with a cornbread mix, crackers, and spoons.

"This was a great community event for the whole family," said Christina Matheo of Libertyville. "I especially enjoyed the chili contest, where you sampled various chili and got to vote for your favorite. They were all so good! We tasted some great food while helping to support Partners for Progress. What a win-win situation."

This is the second year the Assembly participated in the fundraiser. In 2019 the Assembly also participated in Partners for Progress' Burger Throw Down, where they were also a winner. The Assembly has been featured on Chicago's Best and their chili is ranked No. 2 on Trip Adviser for having the best chili in the Northern suburbs.

"We are grateful for the support of all these restaurants. Not just for this fundraiser, but for all the others they have supported as well," Executive Director of Partners for Progress Diane Helgeland said.

"We sold out of all our chili boxes; the fundraiser was a success. During these challenging times, we all need to stick together, and it's easy with wonderful supporting partners like these restaurants. Congratulations to the Assembly."

The funds raised will help Partners For Progress continue to provide quality programs, using their equine partners to help people with mental, physical and emotional issues.

Partners for Progress is a therapeutic equestrian center in Wauconda. They provide equine-based therapies. A few of the areas they serve are autism, cerebral palsy, stroke recovery, various syndromes, and military veterans, to name just a few.
