Hoffman Estates man charged in Dec. 30 stabbing

A Hoffman Estates man has been charged with aggravated battery in the Dec. 30 stabbing of another man in the village, police announced Wednesday.

Quinn L. Donovan, 21, who was struck and injured by a vehicle on Golf Road in Schaumburg about 30 minutes after the reported stabbing, is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 20 on the felony charge.

Hoffman Estates police Sgt. John Bending said no further details about the crime would be released or confirmed.

But Horacio Sanchez, the owner of Elgin-based Tiger-Scape Inc. landscaping company, told ABC 7 last week that it was one of his employees who was attacked while salting driveways at a townhouse community.

Sanchez told the TV station his employee, who had been in a snowplow with the window down, ran away after the initial attack but the attacker chased him. His employee was able to take the knife away from the attacker before he flagged down a truck driver to take him to safety, Sanchez said.

Bending said neither the victim nor Donovan was seriously injured.

Hoffman Estates police responded to a call to the 1700 block of Pebble Beach Drive at about 6 a.m. to find a man who had been stabbed in the hand and arm, Bending said.

At 6:32 a.m., a man later identified as Donovan was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of West Golf Road and Walnut Lane in Schaumburg. He suffered nonlife-threatening injuries and the vehicle's driver was not injured, Schaumburg police said.

The Schaumburg police traffic investigation revealed Donovan appeared to have deliberately entered the path of the car. No traffic citations or charges are planned for either him or the driver. The vehicle sustained only minimal damage.

There was no police pursuit in progress at the time Donovan was hit by the car, Schaumburg police added.
