Local Production Company Films The Road Dance in Outer Hebrides of Scotland

Despite a global pandemic, Lake Forest-based producers Jim Kreutzer and Maryilene Blondell of Sheridan Road Productions have embarked on their latest feature film project with production of "The Road Dance," filmed in the Outer Hebrides Islands of Scotland. Filming began October 19, 2020 on the Isle of Lewis. Five weeks of principal photography was completed November 21, and post-production is now underway and will continue into the new year.

"Production of this film was challenging enough, even without the COVID-19 factor. During normal times, many would be reluctant to take on a modestly funded, independent feature film, filmed on a remote Scottish island," stated Blondell. "The fact that principal photography is complete is really quite extraordinary when you add in the complex layers that it's also a period-piece, filmed as Scotland enters winter, in the midst of a global pandemic, by a small midwestern production company."

Kreutzer added, "Most actors, as talented and experienced and in-demand as they normally are, had already written off 2020 as a year to work. Yet once we finally had a great script with several meaty roles and our production company had designed and adopted a rigorous but acceptable COVID policy, we felt we needed to go before winter on the island closed in. This is a great story, and a great opportunity for Sheridan Road Productions. We are quite pleased to be done with principal photography given the various obstacles we faced and are eager to move forward to post-production."

This is not the first feature production filmed in Scotland for the award-winning Sheridan Road Productions team, Kreutzer filming 2016 BAFTA Best-Picture award winner "Tommy's Honour" in Scotland in 2015, and the two producers Kreutzer and Blondell filming a new sports/lifestyle television series pilot, "The Golf Explorers" in St. Andrews in 2019.

Hoping to be another international success for Midwest-based Sheridan Road Productions, "The Road Dance" is based on the book of the same name by author John MacKay, which is based on true events and set during the time of WWI. It is part drama, part love story, and part mystery as the story of young Kirsty unfolds. Hermione Corfield of "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" and "Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation" is cast as the main character Kirsty. Renowned Scottish television actress Morven Christie plays Kirsty's mother Mairi and the esteemed British actor, director, producer Mark Gatiss, of "Sherlock" and "Dracula," plays the island doctor.
