Enjoy seasonal cocktails in heated igloos at Gianni's Cafe

Like many restaurants and bars, Gianni's Cafe is one local business that has had to change course in light of the COVID-19 restrictions put on restaurants and indoor dining this winter.

As of last week, the locally owned restaurant opened an Igloo Village in its Kildeer location and Winter Village in Palatine to extend the outdoor dining season and keep staff working.

Both of the igloos and greenhouses include air purification systems and window panels that help to circulate air for added safety. A specialty drink menu has been created featuring seasonal cocktails like “S'mores Please,” “Sambuca Mulled Wine,” “Hot Butter Banana Rum “and more.

Beyond the food and drink, Gianni's Cafe is trying to create special experiences in the villages. The restaurant will be hosting a “Reindeer Games” event that will take place on Friday, Dec. 18, from 3 -5 p.m. at the Kildeer location.

Families can get their photo taken with one of Santa's real life reindeer for $5 while sipping on hot cocoa and/or hot cocoa and Bailey's. A reindeer promotion is also running throughout December where diners receive a free dessert if one of Santa's stuffed reindeer — Renna or Reno — appear in their igloos.

Gianni's Cafe in Palatine is at 18 W. Station St., (847) 991-1416. Gianni's Cafe in Kildeer at 20505 Rand Road, (847) 550-8872.
