Streamwood Knights of Columbus Celebrating 20 Years of Service
On October 2, 1881, a small group of men met in the basement of St. Mary's Church on Hillhouse Avenue in New Haven, Connecticut. Called together by their parish priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, these men formed a fraternal society that would one day become the world's largest Catholic family fraternal service organization.
Twenty years ago, this weekend, a small group of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Parish men were called together by their priests, Rev. Robert F. Tonelli, and Rev. Fred C. Pesek, to form Mary's Millennium Council #12801. They were officially recognized by the Supreme Council of the Knights of Columbus on December 12, 2000.
Both groups of men sought strength in solidarity, and security through unity of purpose and devotion to a holy cause: they vowed to be defenders of their country and their families and their Faith. Today we honor those founding Brothers, many of whom remain active members, and all who have followed in their footsteps. Together they have performed countless hours of service to God, the Church, and the community at large. Congratulations Brother Knights of Mary's Millennium Council #12801 on achieving the anniversary of 20 Years of Faith in Action.
The Council is currently holding several fund-raisers in support of Hanover Township Foundation Holiday Programs. This includes collecting donations for the food pantry, providing coats for kids, and distributing toys and other needed items for families in need this Christmas. Online donations can be made on our secure site at https://kofc12801.square.site. Please consider donating, if you are able, as the need is great this year.
We call upon all the men of the parish, who are not currently members, to prayerfully consider following in their footsteps to keep this tradition alive in our parish. Become a member of our Council today and Supreme Council will pay the first year's membership dues (a $30 savings) in honor of the Beatification of our founder. This is an extremely exciting time to join the Knights of Columbus. Visit https://kofc.org/join us and use Promo Code MCGIVNEY2020 (mention 12801 as the preferred council). Take advantage of this limited time promotion which runs through December 31, 2020.
