Curved streets add visual interest to aerial view of The Glen
A calm, clear day during early November provided me with the opportunity to take aerial photos at The Glen, including this view of the eastern gateway to the development, taken from the vicinity of the intersection of Patriot Boulevard and East Lake Avenue.
I find it fascinating that, in what seems like a relatively short period of time, the former Naval Air Station in Glenview, which closed in September 1995, was transformed into a successful residential, retail and commercial development.
The main center of interest in this view is the residential portion of the development, and even from an altitude of approximately 200 feet the mix of single family and multiunit housing is apparent.
The Glenview Post Office and a retail development is just out of the view to the left, and the residential areas of The Glen are predominant in this shot. A portion of The Glen Club's golf course can also be seen in the left portion of the frame, and beyond that is The Glen Town Center.
I like the variety of shapes formed by the residential streets, and the curves add visual interest when viewed from the air. From this angle, it's almost as if the relatively straight line of Patriot Boulevard and the curved residential streets combine to form the letter "P," with Gallery Park and Lake Glenview at the top.
Fall colors stayed rather late this autumn, and dozens of brilliant-red trees dot the landscape, while still-green lawns provide contrast to the scene.
