Park Ridge Civic Orchestra relaunches as Discover Symphony

The award-winning Park Ridge Civic Orchestra announced it is expanding its horizons and will relaunch as Discover Symphony.

After performing solely in Park Ridge for 26 years, the Park Ridge Civic Orchestra believed it was time to expand its geographic reach and make classical music more accessible to a greater number of people and communities.

As part of this effort, Park Ridge Civic Orchestra believes rebranding as Discover Symphony will convey its mission of accessibility, inclusion and education.

Discovery Symphony is a 501(c) 3 organization, and donations to support performances, events and educational programs are fully tax deductible.

Commenting on the relaunch, Discover Symphony board of directors President Kristine Walczak said, “Park Ridge will always be part of the legacy that made the Park Ridge Civic Orchestra successful for so many years. The support from the community has been tremendous, and we hope that support will continue as we take Discover Symphony to new locations and enable more audiences to share in the enriching, transformative nature of live classical music.

“A lot of hard work still lies ahead, as we are still in the midst of a pandemic, but we are confident that working with the support of the late Park Ridge Civic Orchestra founders Nancy and Edgar Muenzer, audiences will be excited to attend our exceptional musical programs that not only offer entertainment, but a strong commitment to education and community involvement,” Walczak said.

Discover Symphony will champion the spirit of community, accessibility and education through the live orchestral performances of classical and contemporary works, pairing modern premieres with traditional favorites.

In addition to performances for music lovers all around Chicago and the suburbs, Discover Symphony will be active in school music workshops, master classes, student scholarships, Down syndrome music workshops and more.

“For those interested in learning more about Discover Symphony, please visit the newly launched website at www.discoversymphony.org,” Walczak said.

“Also, please visit our Concert Archives page at www.discoversymphony.org/community to hear past performances to bring some comfort and beautiful relief to you in these trying times. We hope to be able to announce some socially distanced concerts and interactive programming very soon.”
