Libertyville NSDAR delivers holiday meals to Lake County Haven
For the past few years, the Ansel Brainerd Cook Chapter of the National Society of The Daughters of the American Revolution has provided a complete Thanksgiving meal to the Lake County Haven in Libertyville.
As Lake County Haven has expanded and added another transitional home, the chapter provided two complete meals. The chapter collected enough funds through the generosity of its members that they were also able to provide gift cards to the residents in each of the homes for Christmas.
One of the chapter's members was able to partner with Trader Joe's in Vernon Hills and supply each of the homes with Christmas cookie packs so they can make and decorate cookies for Christmas.
The Lake County Haven was established in 1992 to help homeless women and children. The Lake County Haven is a transitional living program empowering women to be independent. They provide case management and life skills training to help them learn the skills needed to live independently.
The women and children receive counseling and support to help them heal from the trauma they experienced while living on the streets.
In addition to providing meals to each of the Lake County Haven Homes, the Ansel Brainerd Cook Chapter also provided nonperishable food and paper items to the Libertyville Township Food Pantry, which serves more than 100 families each week, providing them with food and other necessary items donated by individuals and businesses.
