469 new cases this week in Glenview and Northbrook, more than double the previous week; 2 more die

An additional 469 people tested positive for COVID-19 in the past week in Glenview and Northbrook, more than double the new cases in the previous week.

Two more people died from the disease, Cook County public health and medical examiner's offices reported.

There were 260 new cases in Glenview and 209 in Northbrook from Nov. 4 through Tuesday.

In Glenview, 1,582 people have tested positive and 53 people have died since the pandemic began, with one death in the past week. In Northbrook, 1,052 have tested positive and 44 have died, one in the past week.

In the previous week, Oct. 28-Nov. 3, Glenview cases increased by 113 and Northbrook cases increased by 100, for a total of 213.

As of Tuesday, suburban Cook County had 105,385 cases and 2,514 deaths, according to the state. In Chicago there were 122,040 cases and 3,153 fatalities.

Suburban Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry and Will counties had reported 223,261 COVID-19 cases in the suburbs as of Tuesday. That's 43.7% of the state's total, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health. There have been 4,638 deaths in the suburbs, which is 45.1% of all COVID-19 deaths in Illinois.

The entire state is under tightened restrictions, with indoor dining and bar service banned, public gatherings limited to 25 or fewer people or 25% of a building's capacity, reduced operating hours and other restrictions to try to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Even tighter restrictions began Wednesday in DuPage, Kane, Will and Kankakee counties and are in effect in some other parts of the state.

State health officials reported Tuesday that 79 more residents died from COVID-19 across Illinois, while there were 12,623 new cases of the disease that day.

That brings the state's death toll to 10,289 and the number of people who are believed to have been infected since the outbreak began to 511,183. The state is averaging 59 deaths a day from the virus over the past week, according to IDPH figures. That's up from a weekly average of 28 deaths a day just a month ago.
