Buffalo Grove Rotary Hosts Virtual Duck Race Fundraiser Sunday, September 6

Sponsorships are still available and duck tickets are on sale for the Duck Race fundraiser, normally held in-person during BG Days. Funds raised benefit local and international charitable efforts.

Despite necessary adjustments due to COVID-19, the Buffalo Grove Rotary Club will once again host its annual Duck Race fundraiser Sunday, Sept. 6 - only this year it will take place on Facebook Live. While the race will be held virtually to keep everyone safe, the fun, excitement and cash prizes for 13 lucky winners will remain the same.

The Duck Race is the Buffalo Grove Rotary Club's largest yearly fundraiser, and makes possible a wide range of local and international charitable efforts the club commits to on a yearly basis. Service to the local community includes providing grants for organizations that serve Buffalo Grove residents, Thanksgiving food baskets for in-need families, college scholarships and a foreign student exchange program for Buffalo Grove and Stevenson High School students and much more. The club also helps to fund international clean water efforts, polio eradication and yearly mission trips to Guatemala.

"Despite all the challenges that COVID-19 has presented for many nonprofits, including our club, we are pushing forward and continuing to work to raise funds that support the many ways we help our community," said President Melanie Santostefano. "Now more than ever is the time for action - and this what Rotarians quietly do year after year here, and in communities across the world. There are individuals and organizations who are suffering financially due to the pandemic, and they need our support."

Ducks are on sale now. One 'Lucky Duck' can be purchased for $5, a 'Quack Pack' (six ducks) for $25 or a 'Flock of Ducks' (25) for $100. Cash prizes will be awarded to the first 13 Duck Race winners - the owner of the first place (the luckiest) duck wins $1,500, second place wins $500, third place wins $250. The final 10 ducks that waddle over the finish line, will win $100 each for their owners. Purchase your lucky duck(s) at bgrotary.org/duckrace.
