Sign up for Rooted Acoustic Barn Raising 5K

Friends of the Greene Barn invite you at your pace to do a virtual 5K, a 1-mile family Dash, or just a fun stroll to benefit the Greene Barn, a significant environmental, architectural and cultural presence in the Greene Valley Forest Preserve at Hobson and Greene Roads in Naperville.

On or before Aug. 30, get outside, get active and have fun with the Rooted Acoustic Barn Raising 5K run or 1-mile dash! Pick any path, travel any distance!

Secure a chance to win a gift certificate to one of the restaurants who sponsored last year's inaugural Rooted Acoustic Barn Raising run.

Three gift cards will be raffled: $100 to Allegory, $50 to Aurelio's and $25 to Jimmy Johns. Winners will be announced Aug. 31.

To enter the raffle, donate any amount through www.cffrv.org/profile/friends-of-the-greene-barn-and-oak-cottage-fund/.

Each dollar donated enters your name in the raffle.

You can also enter by taking a selfie of your walk/run/stroll at the Greene Barn. Post your selfie on www.facebook.com/theGreeneBarn/ on or before Aug. 30.

The mission of Friends of the Greene Barn is to preserve, support, and promote the preservation and usage of the barn in honor of William B. Greene and his family.

The Greene Farmstead is part of the DuPage County Forest Preserve District's 1,388-acre Greene Valley Forest Preserve. The district acquired the Greene Farmstead in 1971. The preserve features a 190-foot-tall, scenic overlook, 12 miles of marked trails, picnic shelters, an off-leash dog area, a model craft area and a youth group campground.

In 1948, industrialist W.B. Greene began his service of 13 years as the first president of the Aurora Foundation today known as the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley.

The 21st-century partnership with the Rooted Acoustic Barn Raising provides a nimble presence in local philanthropy while working toward the public use of the Greene Barn.

Rachel Jenness, Britney Toussaint, and Mary Lou Wehrli anchor the efforts of the Greene Barn to one day be open to the public.

History, community, and nature meet at the Greene Barn on the banks of the East Branch of the DuPage River, and keep on moving!
